Six signs you need to reset your life
We all know that life at times can be busy, what with work and family commitments, finding time for ourselves can then seem near impossible. We get stuck in a never-ending cycle, we may not be burnt out, we may be managing day-to-day, but we know deep down that things need to change. Does this sound familiar if so read on to explore six signs that you may need to reset your life.
But before we get to that, what is a life reset? It is the opportunity to start afresh. To evaluate where you are at and think about where you want to be so that you can move forward. I am guessing that if you are reading this you are already recognising signs that you need to change your life, and that gives you the power to move forward. So here are six signs that you need to do a life reset.
1. You are constantly on the go
From the moment you wake up to the moment you fall back into bed in the evening, you don’t stop. Your day is filled from beginning to end with things to do; whether you are single, in a relationship, or have a family. It might be preparing the kids for school, then dropping them off as you head for your own job, you finish that to head home, picking the kids up along the way, you then organise dinner, tackle some of the mountains of housework, barely make time to shower before you fall into bed yourself and then hitting repeat the next day. It’s exhausting! We need time to rest and recover and time to relax and recharge our batteries. If you are missing this time from your life, then you need to reset and simplify your life.
2. You never reach the end of your to-do list.
This one I am definitely guilty of. I swear some days it feels like I add three things to my list for each thing I take off. Does this strike a chord? Does it feel like your to-do list is never-ending? Do some days feel like you add more tasks to the to-do list than you tick off? When was the last time that you completed a to-do list? If you are sat thinking you can’t remember it suggests your to-do list is out of control. A clear sign that you need to tame the to-do list and simplify your life.
3. Your calendar is booked months in advance
Do you sit and look at your calendar for the following week or worse month and just see an endless block of days filled with activities? Does a friend call and ask if you want to meet for a drink, but the first real-time you have available is in 3 months? In that case, you probably need to reset your life. Having space for spontaneity or just a do-nothing day is important for our mental health and well-being. Too much on even if they are those pleasurable things can lead to burnout.
4. You don’t have time for the things you enjoy
You no longer have time for the things you enjoy. It doesn’t matter what those things were, whether they were running, yoga, ballroom dancing, sky diving, home decorating, or curling up with a good book, your life is so busy that you tell yourself you don’t have time for these things. You want to get back into x, y, or z but it just never seems to happen. Again, this could be a sign that you need to reset your life and focus on your priorities.
5. You feel constantly tired and stressed
Feeling constantly tired and stressed can be a significant indicator that it’s time to reset your life. If you feel constantly exhausted, it can lead to health problems. We all know what it feels like when we are run down, and we get every cold or bug going. The constant state of feeling tired or stressed is your body’s way of telling you it is time to slow down and reset. This can also lead longer term to burnout. Check out the signs of burnout here.
6. You neglect your self-care routine
Neglecting self-care is a clear sign that you need to reset your life. When you consistently put your own needs on the back burner, it can lead to physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. This neglect often manifests in poor health, increased stress levels, and a general sense of dissatisfaction with life. By taking time to care for yourself, you can improve your overall well-being, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential for a healthy, happy life. If you find yourself constantly neglecting it, it’s time to pause, reassess your priorities, and make the necessary changes to restore balance.
If any of this sounds familiar. If you are constantly on the go, constantly tired, stressed, or neglecting self-care, it is a good time to think about resetting your life. Knowledge is power and whilst it may seem overwhelming you can take proactive steps to reset and simplify your life.
